#IFJM2026
Between 2012 and 2021 I kept a fake jounal in April for International Fake Journal Month. Never heard of it? I’m not surprised. But I have resources for you that will explain the concept way better than I could even attempt. Please check out Roz Stendahl’s Official International Fake Journal Blog for the intricacies involved.
I have a separate blog, Skylark Karma, where I have documented all ten years of my previous fake journals. Each done by a different character using a different art medium. Please check them out if you’re intrigued by the idea.
This year I decided on the spur of the moment to participate. The evening of March 31st, I was reading two of Roz Stendahl’s most current blog posts, Finishing Projects and a Little Bit about International Fake Journal Month, and IFJM: Sometimes Projects Creep Up On You.
My 2026 IFJM project definitely crept up on me.
I pulled out a spare notebook and a lovely new pen, deciding to draw something I would always have with me — my left hand. All characters, their names and their actions– all are fake. But there are current events recounted by my character and these are true to the date written.
I wion’t stretch this out too long. Instead of posting one page a day for a month I will post two each day which will carry us just over two weeks, finishing on Monday, July 20th. No big explanations either, just enjoy my quick line drawings and reading my character’s daily reflections in her scrawly penmanship.

and that means it’s Fake Journal time again!
Want to see what I’m doing this year? I’m posting on Skylark Karma, my dedicated fake journal blog containing all my fake journals from 2012 to the present.
This year my character’s using ink and watercolor in an A4 sketchbook not meant for wet media. Does she care? Not a bit. Join me as we see what piques her interest this month.

Here’s more information on what she’s going to use.
It’s going to be a great month!
2020 was my ninth consecutive year of Fake Journaling ever since being tuned on to the process by artist, Roz Stendahl in 2012. She has since stopped her own participation but all the pertinent information is still available on her Official International Fake Journal Blog.
I have all nine years of my fake journals on my dedicated Fake Journal blog…
Skylark Karma.
( skylark karma(dot)wordpress(dot)com ) Each is written by a distinct character, some bearing similarities to me while others couldn’t be more different. This year my character is female. She’s married to Hank and they have two children. The daughter, Lise, is a college freshman and their son, Silas, or Sy for short, is a high school senior. The journal chronicles their daily activity during April 2020 as they adapt to various challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic.
I chose to draw and paint primarily food packaging and produce using Caran d’Ache Aquarelle watercolor pencils with journaling on the opposing pages.

Although I enjoy the daily process I confess my favorite part is making a short video slideshow to share. It’s nearly as good as letting you page through it yourself. You can always stop the video below to read the entries but it definitely would be easier to visit my fake journal blog and start here with April 1st.
Hope you enjoy this three minute escape into another life!
Remember, this is FAKE… no wrists were broken in the making of this journal.

Yup… it’s that time again.
April is International Fake Journal Month and although its creator Roz Stendahl will no longer be posting about it, that doesn’t mean I have to stop!
My ninth year. I’m probably more surprised at my commitment than anyone. Am I ready? Nope, but I’m starting anyway. I figure I have all month to discover who I am.
I’ll be posting on my dedicated Fake Journal blog, Skylark Karma so please follow along and we’ll find out together.
Again this April I participated in IFJM – International Fake Journal Month.
My eighth year… whew!
Not only do I love the process of creating the journal, I also love making these video flip-throughs… getting better photographs, picking the music, all of it… I only wish you could page through it yourself but this is the next best thing.
If this video doesn’t play you can also watch it through YouTube.
If this piques your interest be sure to check out the daily postings of my 2019 Fake Journal starting with this post on my dedicated Fake Journal Blog: SkylarkKarma.wordpress.com … that way you can easily read my character’s daily current event haiku (haikus?) and see closeups of the images.
Hope to see you there!
