#InkTober2017 – Days 16 – 20

#InkTober is still going strong and I’m nearly caught up with my posting!

I’ve been going through a lot of ink and my bottle of De Atramentis Document Black has been depleted. Never fear… I’ve stocked up and refilled my pen. I’ve mostly been using my Lamy Sarai with an extra-fine nib. I’ve gotten my finest, lightest hatching lines by turning the nib upside down. I forget who first told me that “secret” but whoever you are… thank you!

Day 16 – #Fat
Day 17 – #Graceful
Day 18 – #Filthy
Day 19 – #Cloud
Day 20 – #Deep
I’ll be posting the next five on Friday… see you then!

Last Day! Jinhao BOGO at Goulet

I needed more ink… specifically De Atramentis Document Black, and Goulet Pens has it on sale through midnight tonight.  Goulet also has this BOGO buy one-get one sale on Jinhao pens.  Buy one regular priced Jinhao that’s NOT an X750 Shimmering Sands and get a FREE X750 Shimmering Sands.  I’m usually not a sucker for these things but I looked.

OMG… they have an ORANGE pen!

Did I ever tell you how much I love orange?

Jinhao-BOGO1

Yes… all mine.

I bought the ORANGE Jinhao 159 for the grand price of $12.50 and got the sparkly Jinhao X750 Shimmering Sands for free.  The photos don’t do it justice… it’s lovely.

Jinhao-BOGO2

Here’s a visual comparison.  From the top… Pilot Metropolitan, Jinhao X750 Shimmering Sands, Jinhao 159, and Lamy Safari.

Jinhao-BOGO3

Both the Jinhao’s are quite heavy (twice as heavy?) but even with my small hands I’ve enjoyed using them for drawing.  Both come with medium nibs installed and I’ve found they’re really smooth… haven’t had one skip since I’ve inked them up… De Atramentis Document Black is waterproof and the pens have handled it well.  If you find you’d like a finer or broader nib it’s possible to exchange the nibs and put in a Goulet Nib.  Both are #6 and from what I can see are easily exchangeable.  As you can see, the #6 nib is larger than the nib on the Pilot Metropolitan. I’m going to play with these a while before I decide.

I know I’m not giving you much time to mull this over… offer ends at midnight.

Just thought you ought to know.

Fountain Pen Fun!

I am NOT addicted!

If this sounds a bit defensive… well………

From left to right… TWSBI Mini Fine, Visconti Traveling Ink Pot, Pelican M200 Fine, Duke with bent calligraphy nib, Pentel Pocket Brush Pen, Pelican M200 Medium, Lamy Joy with 1.5 calligraphy nib, Platinum Preppy, Lamy Safari Extra Fine, Lamy Vista black EF, Lamy Al-Star F, and an old Mont Blanc rollerball, just because it writes well.

My favorites are filled with different inks for different purposes.  My Pelican at the top is loaded with regular black Waterman ink… it’s soluble and bleeds wonderfully when hit with water. The silver Duke has Noodler’s Lexington Gray which needs a bit longer on the paper to become permanent. The lowermost pen is my beloved TWSBI Mini with a Fine point… LOVE! I’ve filled it with Platinum Carbon Black ink which has been the most reliably permanent ink I’ve tried.

What’s that just above the TWSBI?  It’s my Visconti Traveling Ink Pot… it holds plenty of ink for quite a few refills. I load it with the PCB and it tucks neatly into my TSA approved quart sized fluid bag for carry-on travel.  I’ve been away for more than 2 weeks and it’s served me well!

At this point I only have black fountain pen inks but I’m planning on remedying that! I have an order pending with my friends at Goulet Pens.  FAIR WARNING!  Do not click that link unless you are prepared to spend substantial time and have your credit card handy.

Addicted?  hmmmmm….   Obsessed?  OK, I’ll give you that.
